"A society needs its artists just as much as it needs its scientists; the scientists discover the laws of nature, while the artists remind us why we live at all." – Albert Camus
These words capture the spirit of the exhibition "Women's Resilience and Growth Through Adversity," which recently opened in the City Hall lobby.
The exhibition offers a moving glimpse into the Israeli story through the eyes of students and community artists. It is a remarkable intergenerational mosaic that brings together four elementary schools, a junior high-shool and high school, and local artists. Each participant interpreted the themes of women's resilience and growth in a unique and deeply personal way, reminding us that creativity knows no age.
Although the exhibition was postponed due to the war with iran, it ultimately came to life thanks to the dedication, collaboration, and commitment of many partners who believed in its importance.
Special thanks are extended to Mayor Tziki Avisar for providing the prestigious City Hall to show the students and artists work and for his continued support of educational initiatives and intergenerational collaboration. Appreciation is also given to Karnit Cohen, Arts Coordinator for the Haifa District, for her partnership in leading the project; Orit Assayag, Director of the Education Department, for her encouragement and support; and Shiri Meir, the city's Art Curator, for connecting local artists with this meaningful initiative.
Additional thanks go to Ira Livshitz, Head of the Absorption Department; Michal Tuvia, Director of the Community Relations Department; Silvan for overseeing the exhibition sound system; Sneezhana for her moving musical performance; and the dedicated team of Mashmaut Center for their encouragement and assistance throughout the project.
Deep appreciation is also extended to the participating school managers – Suzy Maman, Hagar Herman, Kati Hachmigeri, Avishag Hagag, Dr. Keren Bavli, and Ehud Ben-Gera – as well as to the outstanding art teachers – Mor Gershon, Lidor Hayat, Irit Mitzpe, Amit Strogo, Julie Benimov, Orna Yazdi, Shifra Kevin, and Nir Avraham – who guided students through this meaningful emotional and creative journey.
Above all, heartfelt thanks go to the students and community artists whose inspiring works remind us that even in times of hardship and uncertainty, hope, resilience, and growth can flourish.
Perhaps that is why each of us carries memories of encouraging words from a mother or grandmother – simple phrases that become anchors during difficult times, comforting the heart and giving us the strength to move forward. the exhibition seeks to evoke that very feeling: a reminder that even through life's deepest cracks, light always finds a way to shine through.
