Program summary meeting

The closing meeting of the “Youth for Holocaust Remembrance” program for 2024 at the Mashmaut Center, with the participation of Junior High schools from all over the Krayot region, the Ministry of Education and Holocaust survivors || 3.6.2024
The Youth for Holocaust Remembrance program brings students together with the stories of Holocaust survivors and diverse content dealing with Holocaust remembrance in Israeli society. Throughout the year, a series of meetings were held in which the students were exposed to a variety of topics and received practical tools for activities to commemorate the memory of the Holocaust.
On Monday (3.6) an exciting meeting was held at the Mashmaut Center for the “Youth for Holocaust Remembrance” program, which is running for the 13th year on behalf of the Haifa District Youth and Society Administration under the management of Einav Yaniv-Shwartz, in cooperation with the Mashmaut Center under the management of Dr. Leah Ganor, and program coordinators Betty Danon and deputy director of the Mashmaut Center Inbal Raz.
This year, despite the difficulties and challenges, more than 160 youth volunteers from the 9th grade attending 8 junior high schools in Krayot participated in the program. At the closing meeting, we congratulated the schools program coordinators and the students for the successful cooperation without which we would not have been able to continue training “the ambassadors of memory” of the Holocaust in such a complex year.
In the last part of the evening, the students were excited to watch the one-man show – “A Life without a Memory” presented by the volunteer actor Gil Danino. The show tells the story of a Holocaust survivor, Mishka Zilberstein, who survived three and a half years with wolves in the woods. Not a single eye was left dry in the face of Mishka’s moving story, starting from hiding alone in the forest until he immigrated to the State of Israel, and started a family.
At the end, the students talked about their experiences throughout the activities during the year. We were especially moved to hear from the students of Rodman who wrote: “Dear Mashmaut Center, during the year you taught us that we have the ability to emerge from disaster to revival and a sense of loss to life. Thank you very much for a significant year that left a mark on all of us for the future”.
This is the place to thank again to dear Holocaust survivors who are such an important part of our educational work and passing the torch of memory to future generations. Thanks to all the coordinators from the junior high schools Afek and Dafna K. Bialik, Rodman and Rabin K. Yam, Rogozin A. and B. K. Ata and Yonatan and Rabin K. Motzkin. Thank you to the dear Mashmaut team, Hana Oren, Kobi Dana, Liby Hen and Guy Hellenbrand.
