Holocaust Remembrance Day began with a moment of silence during a municipal ceremony held at the Kiryat Motzkin city square. The event was hosted by Dr. Lea Ganor and attended by the Mayor, Mr. Tziki Avisar, who delivered a speech. Gil Danino, an actor and volunteer at the Mashmaut Center, read a text from the story of Jacq Struumsa, an Auschwitz violinist. The ceremony concluded with the singing of Hatikvah. Following the ceremony, soldiers from the Haifa Navy joined Holocaust survivors from Kiryat Motzkin for the "Flower for the Survivor" event.
This deeply moving gathering featured a special moment in which the navy soldiers presented certificates of appreciation and a symbolic flower to Holocaust survivors from the city, in the presence of Mayor Avisar.
During the morning, survivors participated in discussion circles with the soldiers, sharing personal stories from the Holocaust and their experiences during the rebirth of the Jewish people.
The highlight of the event was the presentation of a certificate of appreciation to 95-year-old Holocaust survivor Avraham Lerner, who addressed the participants with a few heartfelt words. We wish him continued health and longevity.
The survivors expressed their gratitude to the Mayor, to Dr. Lea Ganor, Director of the Mashmaut Center, and to the dedicated staff for organizing such a meaningful event.
