In the shadow of the complex events that Israeli society is going through, the students of Ulpan Etzion from Haifa (under the direction of Efrat Pickerwitz) came to the Mashmaut Center for a significant seninar on Holocaust remembrance. Over a hundred new Olim (immigrants) who spoke Russian, French, Spanish and English came to the center.
The seminar opened with a lecture by the director of the center, Dr. Leah Ganor, who dealt with Holocaust remembrance after the October 7th massacre. The volunteer actor, Gil Danino, presented moving play from his one-man show about the Holocaust surviver Mishka Zilberstein, who survived in the woods with wolves during the Holocaust.
Following the seminar, the center’s staff led workshops dealing with rescue in the Holocaust and focusing on the story of the Righteous Among the Nations. The highlight of the meetings was the meeting with Holocaust survivors who brought personal testimony. Gita Koiffman, who survived the Holocaust as a child, told her moving personal story to students in the Russian language. Gad Finali, who survived the Holocaust in France, told to the Olim from France his personal story during the Holocaust and after.
