Municipal-educational delegation to Magdeburg | 60 years of Israel-Germany diplomatic relations

In 1965, an agreement was signed to establish diplomatic relations between the young State of Israel and post-World War II Germany. Since then, the relationship has grown, and to mark 60 years of foreign relations between the countries, Kiryat Motzkin was invited to Magdeburg, its twin city, for an event to mark the historical connection between the countries. Mayor Tziki Avisar and the director of the Mashmaut Center and Foreign Relations, Dr. Lea Ganor, led the delegation on the historic visit.

The visit of the municipal-educational delegation to Magdeburg began with meetings and discussions about projects between the two cities and possibilities for further cooperation. This was after a twinning agreement was signed between the two cities earlier this year in November. Thus, Kiryat Motzkin is the only city in Israel with which a twinning agreement has been signed with cities in Germany since October 7, 2023.
The delegation then continued, led by Dr. Leah Ganor, Director of External Relations at the Municipality and Director of the Mesmoat Center, and Mayor Tsiki Avishar, to a unique event at the Leopoldina Academy of Sciences in the city of Halle as guests of honor. The moving ceremony to mark 60 years of Israel-Germany relations was held in the presence of Saxony's Prime Minister Anleit and Israel's Ambassador to Germany Ron Proshor.
Kiryat Motzkin is making history not only with formal agreements but mainly with actions, and the significant educational work taking place at the center creates bridges and hope for the future. This status confirms the importance of the work and influence on the international circles with which the Center maintains contacts.
