Youth for Holocaust Remembrance Program

From the day the State of Israel was established, there have been changes in the attitude of Israeli society towards the memory of the Holocaust and heroism – starting with turbulent years in the public sphere of laws that influenced and shaped the way in which we remember and commemorate the Holocaust; through writing and publishing diaries and testimonies of those who perished and survivors; inviting Holocaust survivors to tell their personal stories to the younger generation; And to the members of the second and third generations, which the memory of the Holocaust has become an inseparable part of their life and they work to commemorate the Holocaust in diverse fields of activity. The change in Israeli society’s attitude to the memory of the Holocaust also greatly influenced the way Holocaust survivors are perceived in Israeli society.
The Mashmaut Center, in collaboration with the Ministry of Education, has been holding for over a decade a unique educational program for Holocaust studies in diverse ways – “Youth for Holocaust Remembrance”.
The program includes meetings between Holocaust survivors and students. In these meetings, the students are exposed to their personal stories and celebrate the Israeli holidays with them.
Among the goals of the program is to expose the youth to the changes that have taken place in Israeli society attitude to the memory of the Holocaust and the survivors, to learn about the variety of factors that influenced the memory of the Holocaust in Israeli society, to learn about significant figures who influenced the memory of the Holocaust, and to discuss the question of how will the Holocaust and heroism be remembered in the future?
As part of the program, the students participate in workshops that give them tools to lead the Holocaust issue in their school and community and encourage them to initiate research activities about the Jewish world that was destroyed in the Holocaust.
